In a casting announcement that has electrified Bollywood, Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif have been confirmed as the leads of an untitled spy thriller to be directed by Sriram Raghavan, the master of Indian neo-noir cinema whose credits include "Andhadhun," "Badlapur," and "Merry Christmas."

The Project

Details about the plot are being kept tightly under wraps, but sources close to the production describe it as a "cerebral espionage drama" inspired by real events during the Cold War. The film will be shot across Budapest, Istanbul, Delhi, and London, with production scheduled from September 2026 through January 2027.

Khan, who has been selective about his projects since the underperformance of "Laal Singh Chaddha," reportedly spent six months working with Raghavan on the script before committing. Kaif's role is described as a "complex, morally ambiguous character" — a departure from her typical screen persona.

Industry Expectations

The combination of Khan's star power, Kaif's box office appeal, and Raghavan's directorial reputation has generated enormous industry buzz. Trade experts predict the film could be among the highest-grossing Indian films of 2027.

"Sriram Raghavan with a proper budget and Aamir Khan's commitment to perfection? This could be the Indian spy thriller we've always wanted," said filmmaker Karan Johar on social media.

The film's music will be composed by Amit Trivedi, and legendary cinematographer Ravi Varman has been signed for the project. A theatrical release is planned for the Independence Day 2027 window.
