SS Rajamouli, the visionary director behind "Baahubali" and "RRR," has officially unveiled his next cinematic undertaking — and it is his most ambitious project by a significant margin. The untitled film features Mahesh Babu and Deepika Padukone alongside an international ensemble that includes two Oscar-winning actors.
The Vision
Rajamouli described the film as "a globe-spanning adventure that explores the interconnectedness of ancient civilizations." The story follows a treasure hunter — played by Mahesh Babu — who discovers that an ancient Indian artifact holds the key to a mystery spanning five continents.
The film will be shot across India, South Africa, Scotland, Japan, and Peru, with a budget reportedly exceeding ₹900 crore — making it the most expensive Indian film ever produced. Production is expected to begin in early 2027, with a release targeted for Diwali 2028.
Global Ambitions
Unlike "RRR," which achieved global success largely through word-of-mouth and streaming, Rajamouli's new film is being designed from the ground up for a global theatrical release. A major Hollywood studio is in talks for international distribution.
"After 'RRR,' the world is ready for Indian stories on the biggest canvas. This film will be my love letter to the idea that human civilization has always been connected," Rajamouli said at the announcement event.
The announcement sent shares of the production company surging 15 percent. Rajamouli's track record — "Baahubali 2" earned ₹1,800 crore worldwide and "RRR" crossed ₹1,200 crore — makes this one of the most commercially anticipated films in global cinema.
